The Biobank includes in a guide the guidelines for the management of biological samples and associated data.

The document, intended for the research community, includes definitions, current regulations, good practices, as well as the main services offered by this Andalusian platform.
The Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia has published a practical guide for the research community with its main guidelines and information of interest on the management of biological samples and their associated data.
This document, which is available on the Biobank website , includes aspects related to current regulations, definitions, different sample and associated data management models, good practice guides on the subject, etc. This is a publication that serves as a frame of reference and consultation for professionals who are dedicated to health research and who require biological samples to carry out their work.
Likewise, this guide includes a description of the organization, structure and operation of the Biobank of the Public Health System of Andalusia and the services it offers to the research community, since it constitutes a platform to support research in the obtaining, processing and storage of human biological samples and their associated data. In addition to this, and through the Andalusian Network of Transfusion Medicine, Tissues and Cells with presence in the eight Andalusian provinces, the Biobank plays a prominent role in the healthcare field since it is responsible for obtaining, processing and supplying units of blood and blood derivatives, tissues and cells for the transfusion needs of the hospitals of the Public Health System of Andalusia.
Aware of the value of samples for research, the Biobank has launched the Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research which, on the one hand, allows citizens to participate directly in biomedical research, getting involved in the improvement of health; and on the other hand, it allows the Biobank to increase the availability of biological samples and data for research, facilitating the work of researchers.
The Andalusian Registry of Sample Donors for Biomedical Research has 2,612 registered members whose samples have supported various research projects. Donations of biological samples, in general, are essential to facilitate the viability of biomedical research projects that help advance scientific knowledge, disease diagnosis, therapeutic efficacy and access to drugs.
